Artistic Statement
Our surroundings are constantly changing and evolving. Through exploring and documenting these places, images are created which kindle emotional responses. These isolated images of what once was serve to help us interpret the past. It is a glimpse of that which we are never really sure ever existed. In my man-altered landscape, I stripped away all artistic frills to depict the urban or suburban landscape. I am exploring the work with the exclusion of people to detach us from the human elements and tell a story of a place or location. It casts an ironic or critical eye on what American society has become. As the world moves on, these images are a stoic symbol of utility in a landscape of constant change. There is a quiet beauty and sadness that haunt these places that are everywhere and nowhere at the same time. This is an ordinary history of the relationship between man and nature, and how many of us are just surviving.
