For me one of my favorite places is Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The moment you cross over the majestic Mackinaw Bridge you leave your worries on the other side.

scholars of early French note that the word translates into jump, referring to the place where one needs to “jump”, or put into the St. Mary’s River. This interpretation relates to the rapids and cascades that fall 21 feet from Lake Superior to the lower lakes thus you need the locks. I am pretty sure I learned that at the Visitor Center at the Locks, another great place to visit on your travels.

Lake Superior is the largest and the deepest of all the Great Lakes. It has many amazing little lookouts and pull offs for you to hike or just enjoy the views.
Naomikong Point has a few such places to enjoy just west of the Soo.

Point Iroquois Lighthouse is a study of seasons and years for me. It is one place that I MUST VISIT EVERYTIME!

The nostalgic properties of a lighthouse and that one in particular always make me think, what would it be like to live that life, in that place? After 107 years in service it was retired. The house was built in 1870 and still stands today a beacon of light in the dark that helped ships guild their way home.
